post super veloce : ho installato gnome 3.6 con una installazione mista systemd e vecchio sistema di init.
Da quel momento totem si apre ma non legge mp3 e video. La soluzione è semplice: basta installare tutti i nuovi plugin di gstreamer (che totem utilizza alla versione 1.0 invece che 0.10 come la maggior parte delle applicazioni).
Nel mio caso mancava solo gst-plugins-ugly , l'ho installato e ora riesco a riprodurre tutto.

very quick post: if you have updated to gnome 3.6 and totem can't play mp3 and videos, perphaps some gstreamer plugins are missing.
In my case , i have just installed gst-plugins-ugly (the only one gst-plugins not installed ) and now it's all fixed.
